      Irvine Meadow: Marks In History!

During the Scottish Junior Cup glory years after the Second World War Irvine Meadow attracted phenomenal crowds - 77,650 v Petershill in 1951 (a record which will NEVER be surpassed),65,211 v Shettleston in 1962 (3rd highest Hampden attendance for a junior game) and 55,600 v Bo`ness in the 1948 final.

Although Meadow failed to win the trophy (1948) our cup campaign that season was watched by an aggregate crowd of 221,500 a tournament record ! The ground record at Meadow Park is 13,470 who watched the Scottish Junior Cup 5th round tie against Stonehouse Violet the following season.

Meadow`s exploits in 1959 saw their fame spread across the border & Birmingham City invited them to play a friendly under the floodlights @ St. Andrews`. The club flew to Birmingham on the afternoon of March 16th and were only beaten after a last minute penalty gave their hosts a 4-3 win later that evening.

With the senior card decimated by the elements STV dashed to Meadow Park on Jan. 2nd 1962 to film the Meadow v Dundee Downfield Scottish Junior Cup tie. Meadow`s 9-1 win was the 1st time junior football had featured as the main spot in a televised sports programme.

On June 16th 1962, Meadow & Greenock drew 2-2 in the West of Scotland Cup Final. The replay took place that very same evening and Meadow won the Cup thanks to 4-0 replay win.

On November 28th 2009, Irvine Meadow became the 1st ever `junior` side to defeat a `league` side in a competitive fixture as they defeated 2nd Division side Arbroath 1-0 in a 3rd Round Senior Scottish Cup clash at Meadow Park with Richie Barr scoring the only goal of the game. (Attendance: 1,216)

On January 9th 2010, Meadow were rewarded for defeating Arbroath as they became the first `junior` club to play against a `senior` Scottish Premier League club when they travelled to play Hibernian FC at Easter Road in the 4th Round of the Senior Scottish Cup. Meadow went down 3-0 on the day but done themselves and `junior` football proud with a great performance and left the fans with great memories! (Attendance: 10,197)
